The Limits of Knowing
Why exist?
1. The Theory
Life lessons can be hard earned.
The movies, shows, and books that I grew up with portrayed life very differently than what I came to realize. Then, more recently, I had my first kid, and something really struck me: no one is born into this world knowing everything. Even the brightest and wisest among us will admit that the more you learn, the more you realize how little you know. You can spend an entire lifetime becoming the greatest physics theorist of all time, only to realize at the end of your life, you don't know how to bake bread.
This realization left me reflecting on my own life, and the lessons I learned, the countless hours spent researching and learning one particular subject, followed by even more long days and nights putting that knowledge to practice. The time spent researching. The time spent working. The time spent fixing. The time.
You see, time is precious, and the more you have used, the less you have. I started to realize we only have so much time in life, and no one has time to do...everything. We sacrifice something in order to focus on something else. While young, we absorb, and as we age, we reflect. So here is my theory: We all need a little help.
2. The Reason
As I've reflected on my past, I realized the only reason I got to where I am now is by the willingness of others to help me, and to teach me what they know. School can teach us a lot in the subjects we are either forced into or dive into, but it leaves a gap between that, and what the professional world actually demands of us. So many students or fresh graduates I've mentored are genuinely smart people, but they simply haven't been introduced to subjects that aren't...academical, yet at the same time, these subjects are critical to the success in their career.
I want this blog to be a place for those people. For the curious. For the eager. Even after a few decades of experience, I still find myself learning, and I want to bring you long for that journey.
